Description

The stitches in the Coliseum Cowl were inspired by photos of the Colosseum in Rome. I love the sturdy support structures interspersed with beautiful open “windows” to let the light and air through.

The cowl can be made with one skein of fingering weight yarn and it looks great in a tonally dyed yarn.

This is also a great way to use up mini skeins of sock yarn for a colorful rainbow-themed cowl! You will want a minimum of 9 or 10 mini skeins for multi-colors. The 0.4 oz / 10 g (46 yd / 42 m) mini skeins will create one section block.

The finished cowl is approximately 28.5″ (72.5 cm) long by 6.5-7″ (16.5-18 cm) in height.

This cowl is crocheted from side-to-side across the short width until the desired length is achieved and then the two ends are joined together. Joining is optional; you could leave the finished project as a decorative scarf.

The rainbow cowl was made with 9 mini skeins from Chicken Lady Fiber Arts Serama yarn in colors Neon Pink, Brilliant Rose, Wild Tangerine, Cinderella, Feldspar, Ocean Green, Fountain Blue, Cornflower, and Sapphire.
The green tonal cowl used Unwound’s Own Hixon Sock yarn in Drake colorway (no longer available). However Chicken Lady Fiber Arts has some wonderful solid/tonal colors that would make a great substitute!
